Please join the T.J. Reddick Bar Association and Old Dillard Museum for the Grand Opening of the Exhibit, Chambers v Florida. This year marks the 83rd anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court Case, Chambers v Florida. The case involved the murder of Robert Darsey. Mr. Darsey, an elderly white man owned a business in Pompano Beach, Florida. Over 25 African American man were rounded up and questioned for days regarding Mr. Darsey’s murder. Four young black man were eventually charged with the murder. The men that were charged were Izell Chambers, Charley Davis, Jack Williamson, and Walter Woodard. This case was one of the first and few occasions where the United States Supreme Court ruled in favor of the black man finding that the police officers coerced their confessions. The attorneys for the accused were Florida Attorney S.D.McGill and a young Thurgood Marshall.
